My Latest Finds: Ponchos from Spiegel

Modesty, Comfort, Elegance, Style? What else are you looking for? I think all these ponchos above will give all the things I looked for this season. That’s why I chose to post it here in my blog to share it to you dear readers. However, to comply completely with our dress code we cannot wear that alone for our tops since the sleeve is a little bit shorter so we need something to cover our full sleeve.

In this case I think it should be worn over a long sleeve t-shirt to completely cover what needed to be covered. A matching loose pants and plain hijab will complete these outfit.

The Abaya that I'm in Love with!

As I always mentioned in this blog that I'm not an abaya type lady and I only wear this kind of clothes whenever I traveled to K.S.A. or during Ramadan night prayer and Eid holidays. Not that I don't like it but I think I'm not just used to it. I always adore some ladies wearing it esp. when the style is very chic. They look very lovely.

I consumed almost 2 hours this morning to look for kind of abaya on line that match my taste and fortunately I found the one above at www.jelbab.com so I immediately made a collage out of it with the matching accessories. I plan to buy more abayas this time because I only owned few, and whenever I looked at that collage, I can see myself on it because I knew that if I'm going to wear abaya, it should be like that.

Beautiful Malay Muslim Wedding Gowns

Images by: Puteri Najwa

Today, I added a new label or category in my blog where I can feature different styles of muslim wedding gowns all over the world, I started it with these very beautiful malay gowns which made me want to be a bride again, lol... but of course still with my hubby as the groom! :D The malay muslims have their own unique style of wedding gowns, inspired by their very colorful traditional dress combined with little touch of modernity, and that made it very unique among others.

I really like all the 3 pictures above, my only comment is, they were little bit tight, so I think if the style would be losen a bit to hide the figure, then it will be a perfect modest wedding gown for every muslima out there.

Modest Daytime Dresses

Today I found a website called boston proper while I was browsing for some daytime dresses to feature in this blog today, most of their products are not modest at all but I still able to pick something which I think will be appropriate to wear by fashionable muslimas out there :) These are good for spring and n summer days, perfect to be worn anytime of the day esp. at the parks and seasides:

Vintage kaftan dress

Color-brushed strapless dress

Smocked border-print dress

All of the above dresses should be worn with matching jacket to cover the shoulder and sleeve of course. The jacket below is one of my picks to wear with these dresses. I knew there are lots of jackets that will be more prettier than this but I'm quite lazy this morning to search for more, lol :D

Embellished denim jacket

Lastly, the most important thing, don't forget to wear the matching HIJAB to complete these set!

Long skirts picked from Debenhams

I love window shopping online but when I'm at the malls, I always ended up buying something! lol :D Today, I window shopped at Debenhams and these are what I found, skirts! I don't know if they have here in Kuwait, I think I have to check their branch here this weekend.

Natural mono print long skirt

I love this skirt, the design is simple yet adorable. I'm a black and white fanatic so I think this will be perfect for me. Suitabel for long sleeve t-shirt to wear outdoors or probably to pair it with jacket over a cute t-shirt or sleeveless.

What I love in this skirt is the style and color, it could be worn with formal evening blouse or simply wear it casually with any matching tops.

This style of skirt can be found in any stores here in Kuwait, what I like most is there will be no need for ironing, it will be prefect for travelling.

Looks very chic and comfy, I like to wear it with floral or printed tops to look more attractive.

This is the best for me, very flexible style! To be worn with long sleeve t-shirt, formal jacket, printed tops or anything you fancy.

Spring Yellow Jacket

Some sisters out there might wonder if they can wear jacket on spring and summer season, well...the answer is yes of course, it just depends upon the materials of the clothes your are going to wear. The yellow jacket above is one of the samples that you can wear on spring. For me, yellow always go well with black, I found it more attractive to be worn in that combination. I chose multi-colored bangles and printed scarf to break the black and yellow solids which made the pair looks fascinating.

In love with Green Accessories

It seemed that I'm in love with green color this year, I never had a single green outfit nor accessories for the previous years but I think this is how life goes on, it changes all the time because I found green very attracttive nowadays. I started the year 2008 by buying some green outfits and accessories....even at home accessories...I bought green bedsheet last month!

I found the sleeveless tunic above while browsing for some green outfits and it was one of my choices since it will be very suitable for this season. I paired it with bolero jacket to cover the sleeve of course with matching pants, hijab and accessories. The tunic could also be worn over long sleeve t-shirt but I prefer to wear it with bolero jacket because I found it more comfortable and modest of course.

Of course I knew the picture above is not modest at all in any sense but I just admired when I saw it online few days ago, in as much, citrus colors are very in nowadays. I want to find a way to wear it modestly, then few minutes ago I stumbled on this jacket below at amazon so I thought it will match the tunic above...I will try to wear it this way:

The jacket would be worn over the sleeveless, paired with the pants and hijab and matching accessories.

Multi-Colored Accessories

One of the trends this season is the multi-colored outfit or accessories. Below is one of my chosen way to wear it.

I chose combination of black and white because aside from it was my favorite combination, I found it very modest to pair with these colorful accessories. Any of the hijab colors presented above will also look beautiful.

Modest way of Wearing Sleeveless Tunic

I found this cute sleeveless tunic at Spiegel and I really like the color and style, so I searched something to complete it and these are what I found:

Wear the long sleeve t-shirt under the sleeveless tunic. This could be worn also with black hijab but I chose floral to break the solid. I also chose gold color bag and shoes to match with the jewelry. A fashionale colored jewelries esp. combination of red-orange and black can also match with this pair. Explore!

Dress in Style from Spiegel

I was looking for some formal dress this morning and what caught my attention was the Spiegel's spring collection. It's been a long time that I did not able to visit this site and I'm glad I found something I like from their list.
This is hand-crocheted sweater separates with pretty scalloped edges. I really love its color, best worn with dark brown hijab with matching accessories. BUT beware muslim ladies out there, don't show it off like the model above if you will wear this kind of dress, it is recommended to slightly close the jacket since the dress style is quite fitting to th body. Suitable for all occassion!

Metallic Linen Dress
What I like in this dress is the material used and the style of course, I think it will be very comfortable to wear especially when the heat of summer is nearly approaching soon. It could be worn with black hijab or any color that match. Suitable to be worn as casual or as a chic day dress.

Fit and Flare Dress
This is my favorite among the 3 and I'm dying to own! lol :D Yeah, I really love and adored this dress including the accessories! If I have to wear this dress, I will wear it with light clored floral silk hijab to break the solid and to look more attractive. Suitable for career wear or chic day dress.

Printed Fashionable Tunics

I really love wearing tunic, if you will open my wardrobe, all you can see are jackets and tunics be it long sleeve or sleeveless. I wore the sleeveless under my jacket or on top of my long sleeve shirt. This is the only thing that I think will match my pants since if I wear something short-bodied tops then I think it will not be modest at all. Below are some of the latest fashionale tunics that I found online. I love them all!

Printd tunic dress- I will probably wear this with beige loose pants and beige plain hijab, blue green shoes and bag with matching dark brown fashionable jewelries.

Printed bell sleeve tunic- could be worn with loose black pants and plain pink pashmina hijab. One thing I love with this tunic is the bell sleeve which is perfect for this season.

Satin-trim printed Tunic- this is one of my favorite color combination, the black and white. If I have to wear this, I will match it with black loose pants and black hijab with silver accessories.

Floral button front tunic- my younger sister will definitely love this! This could be worn with light colored pants like grey, off-white, plain white or light blue with matching hijab of course.

Dusters at Al-Farah

I'm not that really tall that's why I'm not of Abaya or Duster type too but when I spotted these lovely dusters at Al-Farah website, it seemed that I wanted to buy these two or something similar to it. The colors and styles really suit my taste, I am planning to search these kinds in Kuwait market soon! I hope I can find something like these.

Good Hijab, Bad Hijab?

QUESTION:
Is it haram or not preferable to wear colorful ornately decorated hijabs? Should one stick to solid colors? I have oftentimes heard different views. I was told that wearing solid, colored, undecorated scarves is "good hijab" because it is more modest. On the other hand, I have heard others argue that wearing beautiful scarves is being modest enough, and that although the ornate scarves are obviously more pleasing to the eye than the solid colored scarves, that is acceptable because women should not look horrible either. I am confused. What then really constitutes good hijab?

ANSWER:
One of the most famous hadith proofs for hijab is the following, "A'isha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that Asma?, the daughter of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asma?! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face and hands." [Abu Dawud]

These are the evidences for hijab. As to what form the hijab takes, that can vary depending upon local custom. Scholars are unanimous that the hijab must cover every part of the woman's body, except for the face and hands. Some Hanafi scholars say that the face, hands, and feet are all exempted. The clothing used to cover the body should be opaque and loose-fitting. In other words, the color of the skin and the contours of the body should not show through the clothing. The head should be covered with some form of a khimar or head veil. The head veil should cover the hair, neck, ears, and bosom. Furthermore, women should not make themselves up or use perfume when they go out. Using makeup and perfume would defeat the whole purpose of hijab. It is easy to see how the West has built a whole industry revolving around making the female as seductive as possible with makeup, perfume, revealing clothing, and constantly changing hair styles. This is not an image that we Muslim women want.

As to what fabrics, colors, or styles of clothing you use, that is up to you, as long as you have satisfied these basic requirements. It is recommended to wear a jilbab, or over-garment. However, a long, loose-fitting tunic with a long skirt also satisfies the requirement for covering the body modestly. If you look at styles in the Muslim world, you will see everything from an Arab abaya to an Iranian chador, from Afghani burqas to Malaysian skirt and tunic sets, from smart business suits to Indo-Pak shalvar qamiz. You will see a diversity of fabrics, colors, and designs. All of these can fulfill the basic requirement of hijab, which is the modest covering of the hair and body. As far as color is concerned, a lot of that is cultural. While wearing black in Iran or the Arab world is customary, in Africa and Southeast Asia it is customary to be colorful and this is not inappropriate.

Diversity is one of the strengths of the Umma. I don't think it's appropriate for people to tell you that if you wear a black hijab, your hijab is good, but if you wear a hijab with flowers on it, your hijab is bad. As long as you are modest and have not dressed in a way that will attract attention to yourself, you are fine. You can tell if you are wearing something that is showy or flashy. What colors you wear are entirely up to you. Just use discretion.

Fashion Trends for Spring 2008

Good bye winter and welcome Spring! Spring is my favorite season of the year, all things seem to be perfect for me...the atmosphere, the fruits this season and most of all the fashion trends of course! So what's in for this season? Most designers nowadays believed that graphic prints, bold colors, feminine style dressing and white pants is the most fashionable this season.

Graphic Prints

Some fearless fashionistas are combining these strong patterns by layering floral over abstract, stripe over polka-dot, large-scale prints over small. My advice is to sport one busy piece at a time and keep the rest of your outfit neutral. A loud blouse over quiet khakis, or a vibrant print wrap dress set off by subdued accessories, will score style points without blinding your audience.

Bold Colors

Citrus yellow, mint green, ocean blue, lilac and crimson — these are undeniably dazzling hues but they're also surprisingly flattering. As with this season's big prints, it's best not to drape yourself in blazing color from head to toe. (Check this link to read more) .

Below are some of my choices from various fashion websites for this season's trends. Check out the links provided to shop more choices.

Modest Black Dress from Artizara

Nadya Gown with Bolero Jacket

Still remember my first post about MBD or Modest Black Dress? Well, this is what I found lately from Artizara. It is a silk chiffon floor length formal gown heavily hand-beaded front and back with silver and black beads in an elegant wave pattern. A sensuous delight to wear, the gown is fully lined in 100% silk jersey. Bias cut styling for a great fit. Full sleeve silk bolero jacket provides a chic cover-up to the sleeveless gown. Incredibly detailed by hand, and impeccably styled! I like it :)

Fashionable Tops at Artizara

When talking about long and modest tops online, artizara's collection is one of my favorites. They always feature new and stylish tops that match my fashion taste. I checked their new tops collection this morning, below are my choices.

Long Denim Jacket with a cascade of roses embroidered at front. Colorful and versatile. The color combination is very feminine yet strong and powerful.

Contrast Tailored Long Button Down shirt with optional belt

Finely tailored long button down updated with a contrast collar and cuffs, and finished with antique brass buttons. Two colors.

Modest Black Dress

Most women especially fashion observers believed that little black dress or LBD is essential to a complete wardrobe, it is "rule of fashion" that every woman should own a simple, elegant black dress that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Well, well, well...that's how influential Coco Chanel is in fashion industry since she was the one who popularized this kind of dress during the 1920s.

So what about us muslim sisters out there, can we wear this black dress also? Definitely yes, but not LBD or little black dress, we will call it MBD or modest black dress, hmm..sounds great, what do you think?

This morning, I consumed almost 2 hours looking for long and modest black dress online but this is only what I found, I hope I will be able to find something cuter than these Insha Allah.
